A candidate for being eligible for admission to the course leading to the degree of Master of Arts must have passed the examination for the degree of Bachelor of Arts (three-year integrated course) of this University or the degree of Bachelor of Arts (Old that is four year course) of this University or a degree of another University recognized as equivalent thereto.

Provided, however, that applications of graduates of this University in the faculties other than the faculty of Arts, or those who have passed the equivalent examination of another recognized University seeking admission to the M.A. degree course by papers, will be considered by the Academic Council on the merits of each individual case on the recommendation of the Head of the University Department concerned/Chairman of the Board of Studies concerned in the subject in which there is no University Department/Principal of a college where the Post- graduate Centre is granted, and in the case of a student seeking admission to the Course by research, on the recommendation of the Chairmen of the Committee of recognized Teachers in the subject concerned before recommending such applications, the following procedure shall be followed:-

A written test consisting of 2 papers as under shall be administered in the subject in which the student desires to register for his M.A. degree.

An essay paper in the subject,

A paper to test the student’s general acquaintance with the subject

PSO1: COMMUNICATION AND THINKING Demonstrate a clear mastery over the four skills in English language (reading, writing, listening and speaking). Be able to read with comprehension, write with clarity and correctness, participate actively in discussion and contribute ideas to the discussion, articulate clearly with logic and evidence, make moral judgements and ethical decisions, and think logically and critically.

PSO2: KNOWLEDGE Display a broad knowledge of the major writers and their works from various parts of the world including translated works and have an understanding of the social backgrounds and historical facts that influenced various genres of literature in English emerging from varied nations.

PSO3: RESEARCH ORIENTATION Use, evaluate and integrate published scholarship into their own research papers giving due credit and be able to carry out independent research in interdisciplinary areas and write highly effective and original research papers.

PSO4: PRACTICAL APPLICATION Employ the conceptual knowledge into practical work in various professions related to the field and also be able to engage in fruitful and enriching dialogue with other peers, critics and intellectuals in the domain of literature.

PSO5: LITERATURE AND SOCIETY Develop tolerance towards differing opinions, cultures, races, castes, ethnicities and religious ideas without giving up the ability to form and defend their individual values and ideas and display an in-depth knowledge of multicultural and global dimensions of relationships and dialogues between nations and cultures

PSO6: ECOLOGY Cultivate curiosity about the world and the ecology that they reside and exhibit sensitivity towards the ecological crisis and contribute towards its solutions through the field of literature.

PSO7: ATTITUDE Acquire openness to innovative concepts in interdisciplinary fields of knowledge and develop a willingness to incorporate novel knowledge into their existing patterns of thoughts, behaviour and attitude
