The motto of Mithibai college is “Higher Still and Higher” is proving itself by achieving accolades every year.
The history of Mithibai College has been a narrative of responding to the call of society. Mithibai College of Arts and Chauhan Institute of Science, the flagship institute of Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM) was instituted in 1961, in order to provide premium education to the residents of the suburb of Vile Parle and surrounding areas. Amrutben Jivanlal College of Commerce and Economics was established in 1981 to address the rising demand for education in the commerce stream. Fifty seven years into fulfilling the vision and mission of the college by aiming to equip the students to push the boundaries of knowledge while sensitizing them to the need for compassion and integrity as individuals and global citizens, Mithibai College is faced with a new call.
At a time when the world is faced with an explosion of knowledge and technological innovations, the call is to move into more experimental and innovative territories of autonomous educational system. In order to improve the quality of higher education, the Government of India, through the UGC has recommended the delinking of academically well-established colleges from the system of affiliation to a university, so as to promote academic excellence. The motto of Mithibai college is “Higher and Still Higher” is proving itself by achieving accolades every year in the last couple of years like the Reaccreditation by NAAC with grade A with CGPA 3.57 in the scale of 4, its endorse-ment by DST- FIST grants of Rs.80 lac & DBT-Star college Scheme by Department of Science and Technology & Department of Biotechnology, Government of India respectively this year. It is only fitting that Mithibai College which has been conferred “The Best College Award”, Urban Area, for the academic year 2016-17 by University of Mumbai “in recognition of valuable academic achievements, state of art Infrastructure and participation of the college teachers & students in the university system through various mechanisms of the University” transform itself into a strong autonomous institu-tion. I am sure that the College is equipped and ready to answer this call and is poised to take up the challenge.
As members of an institution sworn to the task of discovery and dissemination of knowledge, I am sure that the faculty, the staff and students of Mithibai College will pursue the new challenge with confidence, wisdom and hope.
