Vrukshavalli (Nature Club)
REPORT 2015-16
  • Vrukshavalli annual event was held on 18th and 19th December 2015. The theme for this year was SOILS as declared by UN. There were intercollegiate competitions of Poster, Collage, Slogan writing and Nature photographybased on the theme. 54 participants from various colleges attende and exhibited their talents. The program was flagged of by Dr. Alka Kanetkar, Vice Principal, Mithibai college. The competitions were judged by Manoj Pardesi, Photographer, Shirish Karale Photgrapher, Vidya Premkumar, Dept. of Englishand Sonali Chaterjee, Head, Dept. of Business Economics. The winners were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and certificates.
  • A Talk was delivered by Dr. Megha S. Bhatt, Scientist, WOS, Gujarat University, on Soils and Climate change.
    On 19th December Nature Quiz was conducted by Bicheesh Balan, Dept. of Zoology. The winners were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and certificates.
  • A hands on workshop on Pottery was arranged on 19th December to enlighten the students on the art of pottery and get familiar with pot making. This event was the best visited by all students and staff.
REPORT 2014-15

NISARG Nature club of Mithibai college organized the annual event Vrukshavalli - an Intercollegiate competitions based on the Theme of small islands, its biodiversity of flora & fauna, the challenges, threats, development and conservation, on 22 and 23 December 2014, as a part of celebrating the International Year of Small Island Developing States (SIDS),as declared by the United Nations.The International Year of Small Island Developing States will celebrate the contributions that this group of countries has made to the world. Small island developing states are home to vibrant and distinct cultures, diversity and heritage.People of Small Island Developing States are also at the forefront of efforts to addressing pressing global issues through ingenuity, innovation and use of traditional knowledge.
Intercollegiate competitions Poster, Collage and Slogan writing based on the theme were held along with Best out of waste and Nature Photography on 22nd Dec 2014. The competitions were judged by Pritesh Nanvilkar fro IB Jamnabhai Narsee School, Akshob Shroff, Researcher, Shripad Samant, English department Mithibai and Antara Kadam, IT (Jr.) Mithibai college.
105 students from different faculties and colleges participated in the competitions. After the competitions was a talk on Small island states of India and other parts of the world by Anand Pendharkar, CEO Sprouts, NGO. He highlighted on the unique biodiversity and the threat they face in the name of development was an eye opener. The audience were very interactive during the talk. The talk was followed by Prize distribution. The winners were give a trophy and certificate of appreciation by our guests.
The next day on 23rd Dec2014 was the new event Nature Quest – a Quiz on Nature conducted by Bicheesh Balan. The quiz was followed by a presentation on Waste management by Rashmi Joshi, Project coordinator of Zero waste, Stree Mukti Sanghatna

REPORT 2013-14

Vrukshavalli – the annual Inter collegiate competitions of Nisarg Nature Club was held on 20th December 2013. This year’s theme was THINK.EAT.SAVE. The objective of this theme was to draw attention of the students towards the food utilization and wastage related to lifestyle and ignorance and to sensitize them towards respecting food in terms of making it possible for all people and organisms survive healthily.

Related to the theme we had a talk by Dr. Sudhakar Solomonraj, Head, Department of Political Science and Mass Media, Wilson College, on “Lifestyle and us – a perspective on food and Environment”. He highlighted on the present way of life eating habits and attitude towards food. He enlightened the audience about the ways by which we could contribute towards food security thereby save the environment. There was a good interaction with the students.  

The events for the competitions were Slogan writing, Collage making and Poster making on the theme THINK.EAT.SAVE. Also there was Nature photography and Best out of waste. There were 53 teams from various colleges participating in the different events. They exhibited immense talent and creativity. The competitions were judged by Manoj Pardesi, Cinematographer , Balaji Films, Ravi Achrekar, Department of Biology, Mithibai College, Rakhi Madnani, Department of Commerce, Mithibai College and Rahul Sharma, Photographer.

At the Prize distribution session Dr. D. B. Gadkari, Principal, Mithibai College encouraged the students to take interest and participate in activities which are creative at the same time do useful productive research in basic sciences. The prizes were given to the winners by him and Dr. Sudhakar Solomonraj.
